NEGDA’s Level 2 Air-Cooled Generator Training is a three-day, hands-on course designed for technicians who already have a solid understanding of air-cooled generator systems and are ready to advance their service, troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities.
Building on the foundational knowledge addressed in Generator Fundamentals of Air-Cooled Systems (Level 1), this course provides greater exposure to manufacturer systems and resources, troubleshooting techniques, repair procedures, programming and the theory behind generator operation.
With a maximum class size of just six technicians, Level 2 is intentionally designed to provide meaningful hands-on experience, instructor interaction and practical application.
This course is designed for adept to experienced generator technicians with an established working knowledge of air-cooled generator systems.
Level 2 may be appropriate for technicians who:
- Have completed NEGDA’s Generator Fundamentals of Air-Cooled Systems training
- Have equivalent foundational training and field experience
- Regularly perform generator service and maintenance
- Are ready to strengthen their troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Want greater exposure to manufacturer software, service resources and programming
- Want to become more capable and confident when diagnosing and repairing equipment in the field
Completion of Level 1 is not required for technicians with equivalent knowledge and field experience.

Level 2 moves beyond generator fundamentals to focus on the knowledge, resources and techniques technicians can apply when servicing, troubleshooting and repairing air-cooled generator systems.
Training objectives include:
- Troubleshooting procedures
- Sequence and theory of operation
- Manufacturer software and programs
- Use of service manuals
- Performing repairs
- Programming
- Troubleshooting faults
- Safety
Students will have opportunities to apply course material through hands-on training and will complete both hands-on and written pass/fail testing.
Too many technicians are expected to “figure it out in the field.”
